About Balboa Park

Balboa Park spans 1,200 acres in San Diego and is considered the city's cultural hub. It houses the renowned San Diego Zoo and multiple museums, gardens, and arts institutions. Originally called the "City Park," it was renamed in honor of Spanish explorer Vasco Núñez de Balboa, the first European to sight the Pacific Ocean. The park hosted the 1915-16 Panama-California Exposition and the 1935-36 California Pacific International Exposition, leaving behind numerous architectural landmarks. Today, it is a National Historic Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Managed by the City of San Diego Parks and Recreation Department, with support from non-profit organizations, Balboa Park welcomes approximately 14 million visitors annually. Its diverse attractions-including art museums, exotic animal exhibits, gardens, theatres, recreational facilities, and cultural centers-offer something for residents and tourists alike. The park reflects the city's rich ethnic diversity and hosts collections ranging from internationally significant art to world folk art, sports memorabilia, and more.

With its extensive grounds and numerous facilities, Balboa Park benefits greatly from outdoor interactive kiosks. The i-Tech U4600P1 touchscreen kiosk provides visitors with convenient access to information, enhancing navigation, engagement, and overall experience throughout the park.
